Chapter 1: Food – Where Does It Come From?

1. Introduction to Food

  • Food is essential for all living beings to stay alive and grow.
  • It provides energy and helps in the development and repair of the body.

2. Sources of Food

  • Food comes from plants and animals.

4. Animal-based Food

5. Ingredients in Food

  • Food Ingredients are the individual components that make up a dish.
  • Examples:

    • Spices: Turmeric, coriander, cumin.
    • Fats and oils: Ghee, butter, vegetable oil.

8. Classification of Animals Based on Their Food Habits

  • Animals can be classified into three categories based on their food habits:
    1. Herbivores: Animals that eat only plants. (e.g., Cow, Goat, Elephant)
    2. Carnivores: Animals that eat only other animals. (e.g., Lion, Tiger, Wolf)
    3. Omnivores: Animals that eat both plants and animals. (e.g., Humans, Bears, Crows)
